7) Eat something new

If you ever happened to be at a sushi bar or Japanese restaurant and see ‘Quail Egg Sushi’ on the menu, or if you are with me and I get this crazy idea (typical Heather) to eat something crazy … don’t trust me. Honestly, back away slowly and call the cops, so they can take me away in a straight jacket. I did ask to eat something new for this goal, but in reality I hoped that it would be something GOOD, not something gross and slimy that would make me feel the texture on my mouth days after.

K took me to a Japanese place when he first met me. It was my first official experience to random sushi (the fish on top of the rice, not rolls) ie like eel, which I absolutely love. I saw quail egg on the menu and being me told him we should try it; which he refused on the grounds he was ‘getting over an egg allergy’. Fast forward four years later, he took me on a date and would purposely order the quail egg sushi to try.

Maybe it was the universe telling us not to get it, but the waitress came back telling us it was out, then came back later correcting herself that no they actually had it. It wasn’t until AFTER we had ordered it that we looked at each other and said out loud, “Do you think it’s a cooked egg?”

Ladies and gentleman … no it was NOT a cooked egg, as you can clearly see from the photo below. To my credit we ordered two pieces and I was the first one to go for it, since I’m not one to chicken out when it comes to food. I tried keeping that yolk on top of the rice so I wouldn’t have to taste it, but unfortunately it slid right off and on to my tongue, allowing me to get the full taste of raw egg yolk and it’s not pleasing one bit. The texture of it sliding from your tongue allowing you to get the full taste of it as it slid down my throat whole … not something I would want to repeat. *shudders* I can still taste it and feel it even to this day.
