I love food, as most of you on Twitter know. I think most of my tweets are based off of food and almost all skype/msn conversations somehow turn to food. As much as I love food, becoming a chef was really never an ideal career – the pressure and stress a chef goes under … mmm no thank you. Cooking at home I love and when it came down to write my 101 Things in 1001 Days list, I leapt at the chance to join ‘Daring Cooks Challenge.’
February’s challenge was to create a Mezze platter, which is a selection of appetizers or small meals served with drinks, kind of like Spanish tapa’s. The two mandatory dishes we had to create were pita bread and hummus. As tasty as the homemade pita was, I’m not sure if the mess was worth it. The rising of a sponge, mixing in more flour and kneading for 10 minutes, letting it rise an 1 1/2 hours – then proceeding to make 16 9″ circles that were only 1/4″ inch thick was not my ideal of fun. The dough stuck to my fingers, my counter tops, my bowl. The one thing making pita bread taught me – I’m a cook not a baker, I had to call in the big guns (aka Kevin) to help me. That’s definitely one thing we compliment each other on and I was glad to have him take over the pita making process.
I also made a cucumber tomato feta salad paired with some Sicilian olives and orange San Pellegrino, the chicken kebabs were marinated with ginger and mint. All in all it was a delicious meal, I’m just not sure if the mess was worth the effort.

It all looks soooo yummy
