Going Retro to 2000

I’m going retro for this post, going back to the earlier 2000′s where email lists reigned. I don’t think a month went by when I was in highschool when I wouldn’t get an email with ‘top 10′s’ or ‘answer these questions and pass them along’, but Stacee Lianna tagged me and what else do I have?

1) I’ve always had issues with friends, it’s like I scare them away. When I was little my best friends would move away after two or three years. Highschool – well let’s say it wasn’t been pretty and during Uni, I never made ‘the best friend for life.’ I don’t go out much, and I don’t have the ‘girlfriend’ group that I can go and rant to, which probably doesn’t help my state of mind recently. When I told my Mum about my 101 Things in 1001 Days, her first response was ‘I’ll give you a goal to complete. To make an offline friend.’ That hurt, but it is a brutally honest point.

2) I can be a little sarcastic at times, is a bit of an understatement, but it’s always in good teasing. I hate April Fools Day, I don’t get the point and I don’t understand why people find it amusing to play practical jokes. If I could stay at home every April 1st, I would be a happy person.

carrots

3) I despise carrots. I hate the flavour and the woody texture. If something, such as a soup, has been made with carrots, but someone doesn’t put carrots in my bowl, I can still taste it. Just the thought of a carrot disturbs me. I would rather much eat a brussel sprout.

jack

4) Samurai Jack puts me out like a light. I love Samurai Jack, I think its a fantastic artistically well done animation series. But for some reason, no matter the time of day, after watching one or two episodes I will fall asleep. It’s become some sort of joke between K and I, if I can’t go to sleep, he always suggests watching the show.

5) I wasn’t a big sport person, nor did I have other activities. As a child I was in Brownies and played the Piano, but those didn’t last long. The one thing that did last, was five pin bowling. People always laugh, smirk, don’t believe me when I say that, but I played in a league for at least thirteen years. Every Saturday morning I would get up, enjoy the sunshine, and go play a couple of games and enjoy the company. Unfortunately after thirteen years, I was getting tired of the competition, tired of the coaches pushing me to be better, so I quit. I enjoyed the friendships, but not the competition and part of me wishes to continue to bowl.

6) I was always enamored by science. There is such a mystical quality about it, of something undiscovered finally becoming fact. I wanted to become a scientist, my Dad wanted me to be an artist. I took two two-week internships during school, one working as a lab assistant, the other at a print shop. I enjoyed both, unfortunately the math part of science wasn’t my friend. Despite the creative field I am in, Biology was my best subject in school. Biology, specifically the human anatomy just came naturally to me, and I received 97% on my provincial (kinda like SAT’s).

dvds

7) I’m a big movie buff, but yet I don’t go to see a lot of movies in the theatre. K and I went to see a movie this past Monday and I think that was our first in at least a year and a half. We have over a 100 DVD’s that have to be alphabetical, on the shelf. ;)

8) I like to make crafts, but I never seem finish them. In the summer I had the huge urge to make my own sweaters, blankets, scarves you name it through crochet or knitting. I had made a couple of scarves before, but I wanted to make a baby blanket for my old boss. I did a long trip on transit to the nearest Michael’s, bought some fancy soft cream yarn, and some brown wool (hats) with several books and crochet hooks. I think the cream baby blanket is 1/4 done wrapped somewhere in a plastic bag and the handful of hats I tried to make ripped apart because they didn’t look right. I like the idea of creating something with my hands and selling it on Etsy some day, but I’m unsure if anyone would buy ‘half made recipes’ ;)

9) Accessorizing goes hand in hand with crafts for me. I’m jealous of the cutesy artsy people, who can layer effectively and wear cute jewlery, hats, scarves and make it look good. I try to layer and wear vintage items and I look frumpy and bulky.

10) I love the ocean. I have lived by it my entire life, enjoying what the West Coast can offer, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere besides a coastline.

Loving Life + Food on the Westcoast

In a society dominated by technology and fast food, our culture has lost our sense of adventure, to take that leap of faith to explore and try new things even when it comes to food. My intention is to promote a healthy lifestyle between helping our planet through sustainable means and using local food with fewer preservatives. + MORE
