‘I’m freaking engaged!’ The shout came out of my cellphone on a Sunday early September and I couldn’t help it, but a huge smile spread on my lips as I listened. For a short voice mail, the excitement bubbled out of her.

I remember sometime in the spring, we were discussing intuition and random things, when she looked at me and said ‘I think I’m going to get engaged this summer. I just have this feeling that I’m going to have a ring with a Colombian emerald on it.’ We sarcastically commented that I should do an engagement session with them in the summer, but work caught us up, like it normally does and nothing came to fruition.

Fast-forward a couple of months.

She wasn’t expecting anything; it was Labour Day long weekend. Their 5 year anniversary. They made plans to head up to Whistler for the weekend, doing nothing except enjoying the scenery, each other, and the idea of another year together. They were enjoying a bottle of wine, when he asked if she wanted to splurge and have dessert before dinner. It was a long weekend, as any girl would do, she said yes. It was when she was reading the words on the little cake he bought, she realized that he had got down on one knee and was proposing to her.

Congratulations Adriana and Steve. I look forward to your Mexican wedding. You are both so lucky to found such love and I hope you have many years in the future.
